Thirty percent of Ghana's gold to be refined locally- Lands Minister

Minister of Lands and Natural Resources John Peter Amewu has announced that 30 percent ghana's gold produce will be refined locally. Government he said in November will execute agreement to that effect.

Adding value to the raw material before export puts the country in good stead to earn more. Addressing journalists in the Western Region, Mr. Amewu said the new policy direction is to create employment for Ghanaians and increase government revenue.

Mr. Amewu said Ghanaians have not benefitted much from the country's natural resources hence a deliberate government policy to add value to the raw materials before export.

He apart from gold, for the next five years no bauxite mined in Ghana will sold in it raw state.

He said the ore will also be refined before export.
